AUSTRAC — Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre

Australia’s financial intelligence agency and AML/CTF regulator, responsible for protecting Australia’s financial system from criminal abuse.

01Definition

The Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) administers the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 and collects, analyses, and shares financial intelligence with law enforcement and revenue agencies. AUSTRAC also supervises reporting entities and enforces compliance.

03Why it matters

AUSTRAC is the regulator entering Tranche 2 in 2026 with vastly expanded jurisdiction. The agency has been historically focused on banks, casinos, and remittance providers; the Tranche 2 expansion will multiply its reporting-entity register by an order of magnitude.
